Weston First XI finished a clear second in their game away at Golden Hill on Saturday.

Weston were put into bat first and got off to a great start with Lachie Bailey (38) and Shabel Ahmed (32) putting on a first wicket stand of 89 before Bailey fell to Broome (8-1-36-3). Lachie’s innings included three fours and two huge sixes. Steve Snell played an incredible innings on a difficult wicket to get 84 off 78 balls (seven 4s and three 6s), ably supported by Kruz Belcher (14). Weston finished their innings 211-6.

The Weston bowling attack came under pressure due to the early assault of Golden Hill captain Daz Ahmed (34 off 25) before Harvey Richards (10-1-48-3) made the breakthrough, with Ahmed caught by Foden before Jack Penn, who got 150 against Weston last year, bowled with the next ball. Richards struck again in his next over and Bailey took out the number 4 to leave Golden Hill 40-4 inside ten overs. Two solid partnerships of 80 and 61 followed to see Golden Hill get within 21 runs of victory. Archie Newton got 52 and overseas player Imran Manack 75 not out as Golden Hill cruised to a 4 wicket victory with just over seven overs to spare.

Weston will look to reverse their away fortunes at Bishopston, newly relegated and struggling so far this season, next Saturday.
