Weston Dominate with Bat & Ball

Nicola Clarke

1sts Beat Local Rivals

Weston won the toss and batted first. They got off to a shaky start, reduced to 62-4 in the 19th over. This brought Tahmid Ahmed and new signing, Tom Hall, to the crease. They played some beautiful strokes as both made 50s, Tahmid off 72 balls and Tom off 67. Tom was trapped LBW by Iraq Thomas shortly after on 55, bringing an end to an outstanding fifth wicket partnership of 121.
Wickets then fell in quick succession, with Tahmid also falling victim to Thomas’ bowling on 73, leaving Weston 210-9. Last pair, Harry Gadsden and Eden Wardle ran well as they attempted to push Weston on towards the maximum batting point at 225, but Thomas struck again to leave Weston 219 all out. They were helped considerably in reaching this total by some sloppy fielding from the Clevedon players, despite some good bowling performances from Matt Carpenter (9-0-21-2), Jacob Ward (10-0-41-3) and Iraq Thomas (10-0-44-3).

Clevedon openers Woodlands and Nick Carpenter started positively but Lachie Bailey (10-3-32-3) was on fire with the new ball as he reduced them to 33-3 in the eleventh over. Harvey Richards (10-2-32-0) bowled superbly from the other end and was unlucky not to claim a wicket. With Woodlands still at the crease, Clevedon looked to rebuild.
They were making good progress until Tahmid came on to bowl, removing Woodlands for 33. Harry Gadsden then entered the fray and bowled a fantastic spell of 6-0-20-3, which included the wickets of ever dangerous Iraq Thomas and former weston keeper Will Plummer. Harry also took two good catches in the field. JT Langridge hit a quick fire 37 before he was caught in the deep by Eden Wardle off the bowling of Tahmid (5-0-24-3). With Fraser Caddick falling on the next ball, Clevedon were all out for 161.
It was a superb team performance from Weston, with some excellent fielding, some glorious bowling displays and some determined batting, especially from Tahmid and Tom.

Weston will look to carry this positivity forward into their game away at Golden Hill next weekend
