New outdoor cricket facility opened by England’s Lauren Filer

Weston-super-Mare cricket club is delighted to announce the opening of its new outdoor cricket facility and thanks Valencia Communities Fund for their much-needed support.

Thanks to the generous grant from Valencia Communities Fund via the Landfill Communities Fund, Weston Cricket Club have been able to replace their 20-year-old outdoor cricket nets with a brand new, two-lane state of the art cricket facility, as well as two replacement artificial cricket surfaces. This has been hugely welcomed by Club members and the local community.

Club chair Jon Mayo said…

“The club has been fundraising for several years with the intention of making improvements but without the support of Valencia Communities Fund, we would never have been able to install such a high-quality facility. We hope this will enable us to continue providing high quality cricket within the Weston community and produce more stars of the future like our very own Lauren Filer.”

Weston cricket club is a community amateur sports club (CASC) with 4 senior teams playing league cricket on Saturdays, a thriving ladies and girls section, and youth teams from 11 to 15. Weston also run All Stars Cricket for 5 – 8 year olds and Dynamos for 8 - 11 year olds, and aim to give opportunities to anyone wanting to play or learn the game. The club is open on match days during the summer, and Friday and Saturday evenings, with great facilities for functions and parties available for hire. Find us at www.westoncricketclub.co.uk
