WsMCC are delighted to announce the signing of Somerset and Dutch international fast bowler Paul Van Meekeren for the 2018 season
Following promotion in 2017, preparations continue for our return to WEPL Bristol / Somerset this season and we are pleased to welcome Paul to our first team squad.
The Dutchman shot to prominence with some impressive performances during the World T20 tournament in 2016 with the national team, including a man of the match performance against Ireland. He has subsequently represented Somerset in all three formats, notably picking up 4-60 on his County Championship debut against Essex in August last year.
First team captain Rob Turner is excited to bring Paul to Devonshire Road this season: “It’s always a bonus when you can utilise the skills of a professional player, particularly someone who bowls this quickly and skilfully. He made a great impression at the club when playing for Somerset last season in the Hildreth testimonial game, and we look forward to seeing him don Weston colours in 2018”.
Chairman Jon Mayo is also pleased with the new signing: “Bringing Paul to the club continues the great partnership we have with Somerset, and gives him the chance to stay match sharp when not representing them or Holland. It’s testament to the hard work of our volunteers that the club is in a position to be able to attract quality players. We’re excited to see him in action”.
Asked about the signing Paul said “I’m looking forward to joining Weston and playing when I can, I had fun there last year when playing for Somerset!”.
Paul is currently representing the Kowloon Cantons in the Hong Kong T20 Blitz, and we look forward to welcoming him to Devonshire Road soon!
