U13 Wizards win the Cup, and Wonders’ finish runners up in the Plate

The U13 Wizards won the Cup Final on Thursday night, and there was a great effort by our young Wonders team

The U13 Wizards matched the achievements of the Under 15’s by winning the North Somerset Youth Cricket League Cup, beating Long Ashton CC by 22 runs on Thursday night.

Batting first, Weston started well, with Jack and Dexter Trego playing some lovely shots against some quick bowling. Jack was out for 17, but Ryan Hearse came in and continued the quick scoring, eventually out out for 27 from just 22 balls, hitting some excellent boundaries in the process. Dexter was out for 30, and with contributions down the order, Weston posted a good score of 125-5.

In reply, Long Ashton battled hard. There were wickets for both opening bowlers, Alice Bird and Harry Gadsen, but Toby Smith (28) was threatening to win the game almost single handily. His wicket was vital, and when it fell Weston could relax. Jack grabbed a couple of wickets, and young Harvey Richards took two of his own in a great spell that eventually won him the Player of the Match award.

A great game played in excellent spirit by both teams, exactly how a final should be.

In the Wonders Plate Final, Weston bowled first against Wrington CC.

Batting first, Wrington scored 97/6, with good bowling efforts from Ollie Richards, Tommi Davis, Sam Slingsby and captain Will Smith.

In reply, Weston fell just short of their target, finishing on on 81/8.

A superb effort by a very young team!
