Three new signings for 1st XI squad

WsMCC are delighted to announce the signings of George Cox, Will Plummer and Scott Harris ahead of the 2019 season.

George, a fast bowler and lower-middle order batter, joins the club from neighbours Uphill Castle, after a successful 2018 season in WEPL Somerset which saw him take 23 wickets at an average of 18.61.

Will joins the club from Clevedon. Regarded as one of the best glove men around, he contributed 11 catches and 7 stumpings to Clevedon’s title winning 2018 WEPL 1 season, and will bring senior experience and leadership to the team.

Scott was the leading run scorer in Somerset Cricket League Division 2 last season, scoring 661 runs with 3 hundreds to help Cheddar to a 4th place finish. An opening batsman, Scott is looking forward to testing himself at a higher level as part of the 1st XI squad.

Commenting on the new signings, 1st XI Head Coach Sam Trego said: “After gaining promotion in 2017, last season was one for consolidation and the 1st XI featured lots of Under 19’s and home grown talent. That’s great, but we felt that it was time for some fresh blood to shake things up and develop a squad to sustain a challenge for promotion and compete in Prem 1. Will is an exceptional keeper with experience of winning leagues, so to have him with us this season is fantastic. George and Scott have performed exceptionally at their former clubs, and are both determined to demonstrate they are capable of making the step up to WEPL 2. We think they are, and we’re delighted to have them on board”.

All three go straight into the 1st team squad, ahead of the start of winter training in January.

We would like to formally welcome George, Will and Scott to WsMCC, and wish them the best of luck during their time at Devonshire Road.
