Plans for the 2019 season are well underway, and we are delighted to announce that captains have been appointed for 4 of our senior teams
The captains for the teams are as follows:
1st XI Captain: Chris Davidson
Chris previously captained the 1st XI from 2013 to 2016, enjoying cup and league success along the way. He steps back into the role for 2019 initially, replacing Rob Turner who stepped down at the end of the 2018 season following two successful years in the role. ‘Davo’ is a committed and popular member of the club, and we wish him well as he returns to the captaincy position.
1st XI Vice-Captain: Will Plummer
New signing Will steps into the vice-captain position, bringing with him a wealth of experience and skill from his WEPL winning success at Clevedon CC. The keeper-batsman will be an important part of the 1st XI this season, and we are delighted he has agreed to take on the VC role.
2nd XI Captain: Matt Huxtable
Matt is another returning captain, having led the 2nd XI in the 2016 season. Having represented the 1st and 2nd teams last year, he is looking to lead the 2nd team back up the Divison 2 after a tough 2018 season. He will be assisted by last seasons captain Dominic Mayo.
3rd XI Captain: Martyn Chambers
Martyn is a vastly experienced club member, having captained various teams over the years. Part of the Chambers’ family who have contributed a huge amount to WSMCC over the years, we are delighted to have Martyn lead the team in Division 5 this season. He’s assisted by opening bowler Jamie Dance.
4th XI Captain: Terry Horler
Terry has been a stalwart of the 4th XI for many years and has agreed to take the step up to captain this season. A reliable wicket-taker with his unique brand of spin bowling, he brings experience and knowledge to the team that should help them along in Divison 7N.
The 5th XI is currently looking for a captain for the 2019 season. If you’re interested in this role, please get in touch!
In other news, we are delighted to welcome Nicola Clarke back to the club in a formal position, as she takes over as Club Secretary. Having worked with WEPL and the club in various positions over the years, she brings a huge amount of knowledge and experience to the role, and we are very pleased to welcome her back to the club. She replaces Jon Humphrey, who retires from the role with the huge gratitude from everyone at the club.
