Dear Players, Parents and Members,

You’ll all have heard the news regarding the postponement of the cricket season issued by the ECB. We fully support the decision, this and the closure of the club are pretty minor in the grand scheme of things.

This will however be a particularly challenging time for the club. After the loss of the 2019 Fireworks event and now what looks to be a heavily impacted 2020, our 175 Year Anniversary Year, we’re concerned about the financial strain this will put on our club. The club relies on events, the playing season, bar and social functions to fund cricket activity and 'keep the lights on' as such, and it looks like we are left with little income for the foreseeable future.

I would like to draw attention to the brilliant gesture by our Head Groundsman and 1st XI Coach, Sam Trego who has agreed to continue to maintain the clubs grounds and prepare the playing areas in anticipation of some cricket later in the year on a voluntary basis. This gesture goes a long way to helping the club save money while no revenue is coming in to the club. I’m sure you’ll all join me in thanking Sam for his commitment to club and urge everyone to follow that example of club spirit.

To further lighten the impact, I would like to request that, if you are able, to please consider paying your Senior, Junior or Social Memberships in the hope that we are able to get some cricket in 2020. Whilst we can’t yet guarantee any cricket this summer, memberships will go a long way to limiting the long term impact to the club. You could also make a donation as a vice president to help too as we can get Gift Aid if you are a tax payer too.

In addition to my own Full Playing Membership, I will donate an additional £5 for every Senior or Junior Membership and £2.50 for every Social Membership paid in full before May.

Membership Prices can be found on the link below, please give it your consideration.

I completely appreciate not everyone will be in a position to do this, however there are plenty of other ways you can help once the club starts getting back to normal. It’s important we all try and give something back to our club to ensure it’s here for all our enjoyment for the long term future.

  • Volunteering to help plan or deliver events for the club, such as 175 events
  • Helping Sam on the ground
  • Helping generate sponsorship
  • Consider booking your parties at the club to generate much needed bar revenue
  • Voluntary or vice president donations, however big or small

I hope everyone stays safe and well and look forward to seeing everyone for some well deserved beers when these tough times have passed.

Stay safe and best wishes to you and your family.
