The 5th Academy XI begin life in the Somerset Cricket League this weekend, and warmed up on Saturday with a friendly vs Allerton CC
The team travelled to their new home from home at Allerton CC for a friendly game on the Saturday, using the game as a good practise at their new home ground ahead of their debut season in league cricket.
Fielding first, the team bowled well throughout, with Charlie Biggs, Lewis Richards and John Fleming all producing good spells against an experienced Allerton XI. Hannah Capes produced an excellent display with the keeping gloves on, with the positive energy from the whole team showing through from first ball to last. They were well marshalled by Aaron Stone on captaincy debut, with Allerton finishing on 218-5 from their 40 overs.
In response, the Academy battled well, with good contributions from the whole team. Jakob Massey and Davis Trego took on some good home team bowling and applied themselves well, playing some lovely shots in the process. John Fleming and Sid Rai put on 50 together, playing some big shots including a huge six from Sid that many said was the highlight of the day. They eventually finished 65 short on 153-7.
WSMCC would like to express its huge gratitude to Allerton CC for agreeing to host our 5th XI home games at their picturesque ground this season, and also for playing Saturday’s friendly in great spirits. We look forward to a long and fruitful partnership between the two clubs!
